Our ambassador's visit to the Ritz Carlton took place immediately before the COVID pandemic lockdown of Chicago. The official recommendation was submitted for nomination in light of special circumstances present at the time. Even more than its Lake Michigan and Chicago skyline views, and proximity to the most prestigious retail stores in The Windy City, it is the world-class hospitality of its staff that makes this property truly worthy of recognition.  Its status as the “aspirational stay” location for patrons and pedestrians along Michigan Avenue is easy to understand, and extravagant to experience.

01/ Hospitality Service 

Happy, friendly, and polite staff from check-in to check out. Attention to detail and superior experience. The staff was pleasant, professional, and helpful, from the bellhops at the hotel's entrance to the team that checked us in. The housekeeping staff and room service was exceptional and catered to every need with style, grace, and efficiency that the Ritz-Carlton hotels are renowned for delivering.

San Francisco-based, award-winning design firm BAMO, whose other work includes many prestigious hotels worldwide, was tasked with the $100 million renovations. The Ritz-Carlton, Chicago's contemporary and majestic modern renovation, pays homage to the city's architectural heritage, with forward-thinking Design and industrial innovation. Stylish, sophisticated, and minimalistic elements embedded throughout the hotel's grounds connect the building with the destination with grand windows allowing the city skyline to be a part of the interior space. Guest rooms combine this formula with thoughtfully functional fixtures that offer comfort, luxury and utility for the modern-day digitally-connected business & leisure traveler.

03/ Ambiance

The Ritz-Carlton Chicago greets guests with professional career-bellman staff upon arrival, efficiently fast-tracking guest luggage from curbside to its ultimate destination in their guest room.  Elevators take guests from the street-level vestibule up to a luxurious yet cozy main lobby, where the mix of woods, metals, stone and metallic accents convey a relaxed “James Bond-esque” energy throughout the space.  This energy is maintained throughout the guest rooms and amenity areas, reassuring guests that this tasteful re-imagining of 21st century luxury has been thoughtfully applied to every aspect of the property.

04/ Amenities 

The Ritz-Carlton Club Lounge is a 2,600-square-foot space on the 15th floor. Torali is the hotel's signature Italian restaurant with a rooftop bar, multiple TV screens for sports viewing, and USB ports to charge your devices. The indoor pool is housed inside a windowed-ceiling atrium allowing guests to enjoy a dip, rain or shine. Opulent event spaces are available for wedding receptions, conferences, and other special celebrations and occasions.  The property is pet-friendly, and boasts a state-of-the-art Gym with fitness classes, yoga on the 75th floor with city views, and a full-service day spa.  As one might expect, there is also 24-hour room service, providing delectable selections across a wide palette of international cuisines.

05/ Cleanliness 

Clean hotel room and common area observed upon inspection. Additional efforts were made to contend with the covid pandemic.

06/ Operations

Staff provided temperature checks and hand sanitizers throughout the grounds. They have maintained an active presence on social media platforms to inform guests and future patrons of their opening status.
